Taxes for Pataskala Residents

Three separate local taxes can apply to a Pataskala resident. Who collects each one, and how to check which apply to your address.

Last reviewed: October 10, 2026

There is no single “Pataskala tax.” A resident can deal with three separate local taxes, each run by a different agency: the City of Pataskala's income tax, a school district income tax, and property tax.

Which of them apply depends on the property, not the mailing address. The City income tax depends on whether the home is inside the Pataskala city limits. School district income tax depends on the school district. Property tax depends on the parcel and its tax district. A Pataskala mailing address or ZIP code 43062 does not settle any of these, because mail addressed to Pataskala, OH also reaches homes outside the city.

This guide explains who collects which tax. It cannot tell you what you owe. PataskalaOH.com is an independent local platform. It is not a tax agency and is not affiliated with the City of Pataskala, RITA, Licking County or the State of Ohio.

Start with your address

Start with the specific address or property instead of assuming the jurisdiction from the mailing address. This table shows where to check each question.

Scroll the table sideways if it is cut off.

The Finder: the simplest address lookup

The Finder is run by the Ohio Department of Taxation. Enter a street address and it shows, for that address, the municipality for income-tax purposes and the municipal rate, and the school district and its income-tax rate. If the address is outside any taxing municipality, the municipal line shows no municipality.

A Finder result identifies the jurisdictions for an address. It does not determine what a person owes. The Department of Taxation recommends verifying its results with the municipality or the county auditor.

The county property record: confirmation

The Licking County Auditor's property search holds the record for each parcel. The parcel record has Municipality, School District and Tax District fields, so it confirms what The Finder shows, and it is also where property-tax information lives.

For other household questions that depend on the address, start with the Pataskala Resident Guide.

Pataskala City income tax

Pataskala's municipal income-tax rate is 1.0% as reviewed October 10, 2026. The City describes it as a tax on earned income. Living inside the city limits is what makes someone a Pataskala resident for this tax, which is why the address check comes first.

The City does not collect the tax itself. The Regional Income Tax Agency, known as RITA, administers it for the City. RITA handles individual filing, payments, estimated payments, exemption forms and taxpayer questions. RITA does not handle school district income tax or property tax.

Who has to file

RITA says Pataskala residents age 18 and older must file a municipal income-tax return each year even if no tax is due, and the City says this applies even when an employer withheld the tax. RITA provides an exemption process for retirees and people with no taxable income. See RITA's Do I Need To File? page for the current rules and forms.

Credit for tax paid to another city

The City says its tax code gives no credit for municipal income tax paid to another city, and RITA lists Pataskala's credit as 0%. Confirm your own situation with RITA.

This matters most to residents who work somewhere else. RITA explains that people generally owe municipal income tax where they earn income, and may also owe it to the municipality where they live when that municipality does not give a full credit. A Pataskala resident who works in another taxing city can therefore be dealing with both. RITA is the place to check how that applies to you. Its Quick Calc tool gives an estimate, and its staff can answer account questions.

For the City's own explanation, see the City of Pataskala taxes page. Business taxpayers and employers should use RITA's business resources.

School district income tax

School district income tax is separate from Pataskala's City income tax. Paying one does not cover the other, and not every Ohio school district has one.

Whether it applies depends on which school district you live in. Pataskala is divided between the Licking Heights and Southwest Licking school districts, and school district boundaries do not follow the city limits, so two Pataskala residents can be in different positions. Check the district by address. Need to confirm which school district serves your address? See Schools Serving Pataskala.

As reviewed October 10, 2026, for tax year 2026:

  • Licking Heights Local School District: no school district income tax. The district is not on the state's 2026 list of districts with an income tax, and The Finder shows a rate of 0.00%.
  • Southwest Licking Local School District: a 0.75% school district income tax on a traditional tax base, according to the state's 2026 list. The state's number for the district is 4510.

These rates can change. Southwest Licking Local School District voters had a proposed replacement of the district's school district income tax on the November 3, 2026 ballot. Election results are unofficial until the Licking County Board of Elections certifies them, and this guide shows the rate on the state's 2026 list until an authoritative source confirms any change. For what was on that ballot, see our voter guide for the November 3, 2026 election. That guide covers the election, not routine tax administration.

The Ohio Department of Taxation, not RITA, administers school district income tax. For who must file and how, use the state's school district income tax page.

Property taxes

Two county offices share the work, and they do different jobs.

  • Licking County Auditor. The Auditor determines property values for tax purposes, keeps the parcel records, certifies tax rates and administers tax-reduction programs.
  • Licking County Treasurer. The Treasurer collects real-estate taxes. Questions about paying a bill go there.

Looking up a property

  • Find the parcel in the Licking County property search.
  • Open the Parcel view to see the Municipality, School District and Tax District for the property.
  • Open the Taxes view for that property’s tax details.
  • Open Distribution, under Taxes, to see which taxing bodies receive that property’s tax.

Property tax is specific to the parcel. Rates, amounts and the share that goes to each taxing body differ from one tax district to another, so this guide does not list them. Several taxing bodies share in a bill, and voters can approve local tax levies. For due dates and ways to pay, use the Treasurer.

Homestead exemption

The homestead exemption is an Ohio program that reduces property tax for some homeowners. In Licking County it is handled by the County Auditor. The Auditor's information lists these groups among those who may qualify:

  • homeowners age 65 or older;
  • homeowners who are permanently and totally disabled;
  • qualifying disabled military veterans;
  • certain surviving spouses.

Being in one of these groups is not enough on its own. Eligibility requirements apply, including income rules for many applicants, and this guide cannot tell you whether you qualify. The current details and forms are under Homestead on the Auditor's property search site.

Sources and methodology

This guide was checked against the City of Pataskala, RITA, the Ohio Department of Taxation, the Licking County Auditor and the Licking County Treasurer. We tested The Finder with addresses inside and outside the city limits, because a Pataskala mailing address does not necessarily mean a property is inside the City of Pataskala.

Rates and rules are stated as those agencies gave them on the review date and can change. Deadlines, forms and dollar thresholds are left to the agencies' own pages. If you find something here that differs from an agency's own information, follow the agency and let us know so we can correct it.
