Parks and Trails in Pataskala

A guide to Pataskala's seven city parks: which has the playground, trail, pond or court you are looking for, and where to find reservations, the pool and recreation programs.

Last reviewed: October 10, 2026

The City of Pataskala has seven city parks, and each offers a different mix of wooded and paved walking trails, playgrounds, stocked fishing ponds, sports fields and courts, shelters and open space. Municipal Park also has the city pool. This guide uses the City's own information and says so where the City's pages disagree or say nothing. PataskalaOH.com is an independent local guide, not an official City page.

The seven City parks

Foundation Park

10255 McIntosh Road, behind The Settlement subdivision

The largest set of facilities in the City’s listings. The City describes Conaway’s Trail as winding for nearly a mile through mature forest, with hill climbs and streamside stretches, and a 1.4-mile perimeter trail that skirts the ball diamonds, soccer fields, playgrounds and woodlands. The park has a stocked fishing pond, two playground areas with a gaga pit next to one of them, ten mini and regulation-size soccer fields, ball diamonds, paved basketball courts and a shelter. The City’s youth soccer program is based here.

  • The City’s current pages do not state the perimeter trail’s surface.

Location source: City of Pataskala.

Municipal Park

500 Township Road, at Mill Street, Township Road and Creek Road

Home of the Municipal Pool. The City also lists a playground, soccer fields, ball diamonds, paved basketball courts, sand volleyball courts and a shelter with electric.

  • Walking trail: length and surface not stated by the City.
  • The pool is not part of a shelter rental.

Location source: City of Pataskala.

Liberty Park

West of Taylor Road, inside the Brooksedge development

A stocked fishing pond, a short paved loop trail, and a woodland path that leads to a nature-themed playground in a wooded area. The City lists Liberty among its parks with reservable shelters.

  • The City gives no street address for Liberty Park, so we do not offer a directions link for it.

Location source: City of Pataskala (no street address given).

Karr Park

Behind City Hall, 621 W. Broad Street

A short paved loop trail, a playground, sand volleyball courts and two shelters with electric, behind City Hall. The City says one of the shelters has a restroom.

  • An older City page lists Karr’s shelters as rentable. The City’s current Facility Reservations page does not include Karr among the parks with reservable shelters.

Location source: City of Pataskala.

Citizens Park

Glenbrooke subdivision, west of Summit Road and north of Cleveland Street (296 Monarch Drive), according to Explore Licking County

A stocked fishing pond and a playground.

  • The City says six of its seven parks have shelters and names the other six. It does not say in so many words that Citizens Park has none.

Location source: Explore Licking County, not the City. The City pages reviewed give no location for this park.

Walking and trails

These are the trails and walking paths the City describes. Lengths are the City's; none are estimated.

  • Conaway’s Trail, Foundation Park. Nearly a mile through mature forest, with hill climbs and streamside stretches, in the City’s description.
  • Perimeter trail, Foundation Park. 1.4 miles around the ball diamonds, soccer fields, playgrounds and woodlands.
  • Paved loop and woodland path, Liberty Park. A short paved loop that leads to a woodland path to the nature playground. No length is given.
  • Paved loop, Karr Park. A short paved loop. No length is given.
  • Walking trail, Municipal Park. Length and surface not stated by the City.

The City sources reviewed do not describe trail accessibility, permitted uses such as bicycles, or any connection between parks.

Fishing

The City says small ponds stocked with fish are at Citizens Park, Foundation Park and Liberty Park, and that fishing from the shoreline with a rod and reel is permitted at each. Anglers age 16 and over need an Ohio fishing license from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. For license details and state fishing rules, go to the Department directly.

Playgrounds and sports

Playgrounds

The City lists traditional playground sets at Citizens, Foundation, Freedom, Karr and Municipal parks, and a nature-themed playground in a wooded area at Liberty Park. Foundation Park also has a gaga pit beside one of its playground areas. Volunteer Park is less clear: one City page lists a swing set there, and the City's current list of parks with playground sets does not include it.

Courts and fields

  • Soccer: ten mini and regulation-size fields at Foundation Park, with more fields at Freedom, Municipal and Volunteer parks.
  • Ball diamonds: Foundation, Municipal and Volunteer parks.
  • Basketball: paved outdoor courts at Foundation, Municipal and Volunteer parks.
  • Sand volleyball: Municipal and Karr parks.

The City says basketball and volleyball courts are first come, first served, and that visitors may use soccer fields and ball diamonds for casual play when leagues are not using them for practices, games or tournaments. The City sources reviewed do not mention tennis, pickleball, skate or disc golf facilities.

Shelters and facility reservations

Pataskala Parks and Recreation handles reservations. The City's Facility Reservations page says shelters are reserved by the day online through CivicRec, the City's registration system, where calendars show availability. Athletic fields are requested with a facility request form, and the City says a request does not guarantee approval: permits depend on availability.

The Facility Reservations page lists five parks with reservable shelters: Foundation, Freedom, Liberty, Municipal and Volunteer. Karr Park has two shelters but is not on that list, and older City pages list the parks differently. Check the City's CivicRec catalog or call Parks and Recreation at 740-927-3512 or 740-927-2021 for what is available on your date. Fees are set by the City and are not listed here.

Restrooms

The City's information on restrooms is brief. It says one of the two shelters at Karr Park has a restroom, and that the other parks “will have at least one from March until September, some until October.” It does not say which parks, or what kind of facility. If a restroom matters for your visit or event, confirm with Parks and Recreation.

Municipal Pool and recreation programs

Municipal Pool

The Municipal Pool is at Municipal Park. The City describes it as open daily during the summer months, with swimming lessons and private pool parties available. Season dates, hours, admission and membership details change from year to year, so check the City's Aquatics page for the current season.

Recreation programs

Parks and Recreation runs programs that change by season. The City currently lists these kinds:

  • Youth soccer for ages 3 to 17, based at Foundation Park
  • Adult coed softball
  • An introduction to fishing for youth and families (Passport to Fishing)
  • A summer archery program offered with the YMCA
  • Aquatics at the Municipal Pool, including swim lessons and the Pataskala Porpoises swim team

For current sessions, dates, fees and registration, use the City's Programs page and CivicRec catalog. Dated community events that we have verified appear in our events listings.

One thing to know before you register: the City's resident and non-resident fee policy says resident rates depend on living inside Pataskala's corporate limits, not on having a Pataskala mailing address or being in a particular school district.

Before You Go

The City sources reviewed for this guide do not state:

  • opening or closing hours for individual parks;
  • parking arrangements;
  • rules for dogs;
  • accessibility of playgrounds, trails, shelters or restrooms;
  • acreage or, for several parks, a street address.

We have not filled those gaps with assumptions. If any of them matters for your visit, ask Pataskala Parks and Recreation. Reservation and program details also change, so treat the City's pages as the current word.

Nearby, not a City of Pataskala park

Nearby: Blacklick Woods Metro Park

Blacklick Woods is outside Pataskala, at 6975 E. Livingston Ave. in Reynoldsburg. It is operated by Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, not by the City of Pataskala.

Metro Parks lists several short walking trails there, a multipurpose trail and access to the 16-mile Blacklick Creek Greenway. The park also has a nature center with natural history exhibits and wildlife viewing windows, and a canopy walk that rises 40 feet into the trees. For trail lengths, hours and rules, see Metro Parks' Blacklick Woods page.
